Last December 2020, the 17.92 kilometer Skyway Stage 3 – linking north and south Luzon was opened. This elevated expressway improved the travel time from three (3) hours to just thirty (30) minutes thus easing the movement of people and goods across the National Capital Region. Ongoing construction of the 1.2-kilometer road that will connect the 18-kilometer Skyway Stage 3 to the ongoing 8-kilometer North Luzon Expressway connector will further link the northern and southern parts of Metro Manila.
Skyway Stage 3 is one of the largest and most ambitious infrastructure project to date by the government and San Miguel Corporation. It elevated accessibility of goods and services and plays a vital role in providing a seamless link between north and south unlocking the potential of the provinces it serviced. At full capacity, with seven lanes available, skyway can easily handle 50 percent of EDSA’s traffic or 200,000 vehicles per day which will help in decongesting Metro Manila traffic. The traffic problem according to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) economic costs are pegged at P3.5 billion daily and could increase to P5.4 billion daily by 2035 unless interventions are made. The cost we lose daily can be used to fund other government projects and generate more income.
Skyway stage 3 is truly a game-changer in the economic recovery amidst pandemic and will pave the way for creating new businesses and attract investors in the North and South Luzon as it helps in easing transportation of goods and services.
